What determines a favorite food city varies for everyone. If you like a certain type of cuisine, you may prefer one town to another. The types of food from the East to West coast in the U.S. vary as much as the terrain of this country. Let’s take a look at some of the top-rated cities for food lovers.

New Orleans, Louisiana

The foodies of the world may not agree with what we decide for this list, but we’re going to try to give you a selection when it comes to delectable food in the U.S. New Orleans is home to many distinct foods. The Louisiana Creole people are descendants of French, African, Spanish, and Native American origins. These foods have roots due to the French and Spanish ruling of Louisiana before the U.S. colonized. You can taste the history with gumbo, jambalaya, and beignets. All of which hailed from the New Orleans region.

Additionally, seafood is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. The po’boy is a common food of New Orleans made with shrimp, crawfish, or roast beef on crispy french bread. Whatever kind of diet restrictions you may be on, you can certainly enjoy some beans and rice which is one of the most popular Louisiana dishes with many local joints adapting their styles.

New York City, New York

With the number of immigrants and settlers that came through Ellis Island, there’s no wonder there is every style of food available. The city can cater to all sorts of price ranges as well. From the street stands to fine dining, there is something for everyone to eat in the Big Apple. If you’re craving Thai, check out Somtum Der or Thai Villa. If you are looking for some schnitzel, you can visit Plattdeutsche Park or Heidelberg Restaurant.

There is an extensive list of the best places to eat in New York and you can probably fit about 20 or so on a single street. This city loves all of its residents and their unique cultures that bring delicious food from all over the world. New York City may be the most common city for a foodie, but that’s for a reason.

El Paso, Texas

As a follow-up to Thai and German foods, we will add Mexican to this mouth-watering list. Mexican restaurants, cafes, and cantinas are found all over El Paso representing the traditions and foods of the city’s Mexican heritage. With this city on the Rio Grande, there are cultural influences seen in the cuisine of Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and many other Latin American countries. If you love this kind of food, then you may be researching El Paso houses for sale right now! If not looking to move, it’s 100% worth the visit and we recommend that based on the food alone.

However, this type of food may dominate this region, but it is most certainly not all it has to offer. You can find Mediterranean-style dishes and all-American burgers as well. We advise exploring your senses and going where your tastebuds lead you.

Portland, Oregon

The true foodies of the world will agree on this pick. Portland, Oregon is consistently ranked one of the best American cities to grab a bite. Not only is there variety in Portland, but there are also options that are affordable for everyone to enjoy. The folks of Portland don’t believe that you should have to be rich to eat richly. You can enjoy Vietnamese food, soulful chowders and stews at Portland Kettle, delightfully light Greek meals, and even some Russian dishes at Kachka.

Whatever you may be in the mood for, Portland has it for you. This city is often famous for its street food. There are food trucks that are dotted throughout the city boasting ratings higher than some restaurants. MF Tasty Food Truck has a rating on google of a 4.9 which might as well be a perfect 5. In Portland, you’re encouraged to eat as much as your heart desires.

Las Vegas, Nevada

I’m sure when you are thinking of the top food cities, you probably don’t immediately think of Las Vegas. However, it makes sense when you think about it. This is a tourist city that relies on visitors to come to the casinos, hotels, and restaurants. Not only is there a ton of options, but it’s also rated as one of the most affordable foodie spots in the U.S. as well. You could visit Vegas without gambling at all and still thoroughly enjoy your visit.

Some great restaurants are owned and operated by 5-star chefs. You don’t have to spend your time on the main strip if you don’t want to either. There are plenty of delicious meals available in the other parts of the city as well, and plenty that aren’t buffets! Take a backroad next visit to Las Vegas and check out some of the eclectic spots around town.

Visiting any of these options would make our belly pretty happy. These are only 5 of the best as well, there are tons more to explore! However, if you move to any of these cities, rest assured your appetite is in good hands.
